Casal Solleric,
An art centre located in the heart of Paseo del Borne in Palma de Mallorca: a historic venue, with a history. One of those places that travellers in search of “hidden places” and “hidden gems” love.
Art space currently commissioned to make exhibitions of contemporary art and photography.
An interesting place to let yourself be trapped by Mallorcan history. By today’s history and above all by the history that is written by today’s Palma.
Ca’n Morell
A baroque building spectacular for its architecture, its harmony, its simplicity, made to measure and requested by the Morell Family in the eighteenth century.
It became one of the noble houses par excellence at that time in the city. Its architect was Gaspar Palmer together with the Italian artist Antonio Soldati, who gave it that touch of sobriety and Italian beauty with wrought iron and sculptures as decoration of the different spaces: corridors, hall and room of sculptures.
Palma Espai d’Art
Since the mid-1980s, Casal Solleric has been a multidisciplinary centre focusing on exhibitions and documentation of contemporary art. Managed by Palma City Council through the “Palma Espai d’Art” Foundation.
Organizing contemporary art exhibitions throughout the year in the different spaces and halls of the Casal itself. Most of the time they also use the Mallorcan courtyard and its staircases.
Collective art exhibitions, comic shows and even photographs of great masters such as Cartier-Bresson, Steve McCurry are just some of the artists exhibited in this space. In addition to always supporting young local and international artists, an art centre in constant search its I+D.
The Shop Casal Solleric
In spite of its small dimensions, it is a space with great taste. You can find books edited by Casal himself. The well-known books Taschen, notebooks for artists, for anyone who wants to write a note, a phrase, a reminder, or even their sensations when seeing the different exhibitions.
Ciutat de Palma Award
Over the years, the City of Palma Award has gained more fame among local and even international artists based on the island or simply with sympathy for the city.
There are different categories and space for all the artists from photography, comic, drawing, story, micro story… And during the Festivities of the Patron Saint of Palma -19-20th January-, the vernissage is always carried out, inaugurating the exhibition with the works selected as finalists and winners.
A place that is accessible for all. A way to update and see art, in a simple way but with pleasure.
Guided Tours
At the entrance, if requested, there is always a member of the foundation itself, available free of charge. For those who prefer to make guided tours and complete them with information about the artists and works and the exhibition.
Our Hidden Corner
Our recommendation is to continue upstairs. Don’t stay only in the known exhibition spaces, but continue up to the top floor and enjoy the exquisite beauty of Antonio Soldati’s sculptures. Such a simple and free way to access an exhibition that without a doubt, never leaves indifferent.
You may or may not like classical art, you may or may not like sculpture, but no one denies beauty.
GastroBar
For some years now, inside the same Casal, is located on the right side of the building, with separate entrance. The catering service available for anyone wishing to eat something fast or have a coffee, a beer, a wine in the middle of Paseo del Borne. The service is attentive and friendly.
