That have a differential value and the most important thing, talents behind each logo or commercial name, as is the case of Bodega Caseta Vella.
? Caseta Vella
A few days ago we discovered this new small winery, which is located in the northwest of the island, in the municipality of Santa Margalida near Ca’n Picafort and Alcudia.
We made the visit on a rainy autumn day in Mallorca, and although we could not take the typical walk through the vineyards, it was worth it to visit Caseta Vella.
The proyect
This project is a dream come true for the couple formed by Pedro and Elisa Roldán. Biologists by profession, wine lovers, always dreamed of having their own winery. And four years ago, they decided to go for their dream. They completely refurbished and reformed this space.
The building is located at the end of the path of the family property, where Pedro and his brothers had spent their summers since he was a child and where his children and nephews now also enjoy the authentic and wonderful Mallorcan summers.
Caseta Vella: the beginnings
They started by adapting the land, and went to professionals of the prestige of Galmés i Ribot to be advised by those they considered the best.
Humble and down-to-earth, aware that every project starts from the ground up to the construction of the roof. They have moved forward without taking any steps backwards.
? The Grape Varieties
They designed and developed this project which was gradually taking shape. They chose an oenologist they trusted, and planted native varieties such as Prensal Blanc and Manto Negro. Among the international varieties, they chose Syrah, Merlot, Macabeo, Viognier and Cabernet Sauvignon. Varieties in which they felt comfortable to work and make their wines.
During these first four years, they have been getting to know their vineyards, and defining what wine they want to offer, tasting the first results among friends, family and professionals they have met.
And this 2020 season, so difficult and strange for everyone, has nevertheless been, for Caseta Vella, its great year, its official start.
Its first two wines have gone on sale to the public, and have been present in numerous wine lists of famous places in Mallorca, among them the famous beach club, Restaurant La Ponderosa. Where the German public had no doubts.
? Their wines
1.- Urooo!
Their first white wine Urooo! is a young white wine, of Chardonnay and Macabeo variety, the result of a small and limited production of 667 bottles.
Its name, as its label says, has been the surprise of the good result of this first wine.
2.- Primavera de s’ Hivern
Their first pale rosé wine has been called Primavera de S’ Hivern, a curious name, a tribute to the Mallorcan grandparents who, for decades, did not have a name to mention the “Autumn” season and called it “Primavera de s’ Hivern” (Winter Spring).
A clear and bright rosé made up of the varieties of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and the native variety Manto Negro. A production wine, a little bigger than its white wine Urooo! in this case 973 bottles.
