A Hidden Place
Deception Island, known to many as the island of Deceit, is the destination that does not disappoint.
In the southern part of the world, in the very Antarctic, in the Shetland Islands, you will find this famous island in the shape of a horseshoe.
An island with real volcanic activity, exciting for all nature lovers. There are no hotels, no shelters to stay in, because there are not even built houses, only small scientific stations where there are a few that have their base there. If you travel as a tourist, you have to get directly by boat and stay in it during your stay.
Whalers Bay,
Whalers Bay, a historic and dreamy beach, characterized by its miles of black sand and which owes its name to that it was for decades, place of whaling. As well as starting point and reference for different exploration missions of the South Pole.
Its history
At the end of the years 60 due to a large volcanic eruption, some of the scientific stations were damaged that were installed there for the study of the whales, penguins… They say that to this day, a large number of whale corpses are found at great depth and died due to the eruption as well.
The Argentinan and Spanish bases are only based in the summer months currently. It is advisable to travel there during our winter months, which for them is the austral summer.
Mount Pond
Despite its history and its little luck with a volcanic activity-the latest eruption that caused damage dates back to 1990-, it is an ideal place to visit. Icebergs reaching a minimum of 500 meters, the highest is Monte Pond of 542 meters, colonies of penguins in the vicinity, sea lions and elephants, whales and miles of volcanic hot springs.
Pendulum
Place of shallow water, with warm waters to be able to dive and even for the most daring to give a splash to make spectacular photos to remember. From the water, hot steam comes out, caused by the magma itself.
Port Foster
It is the safe place of the area, a natural port that for many years has been and is, shelter against storms and large icebergs.
An unusual destination, a special island of a movie beauty. A place to travel only for travellers with a great capacity to adapt and very adventurous spirit. In our case, we’ll come back.
