Caimari
Ca Na Toneta Restaurant is located in the village of Caimari. It is a good excuse to continue admiring the villages of the interior of Majorca. Caimari is a village of approximately 700 inhabitants, which is located in the municipality of Selva. Located at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, about 40 minutes away from Palma.
We really like the experience of the arrival to the village and the restaurant as well as the quality of their gastronomic offer.
Kitchen with a central base on the product
They offer a tasting menu, a succession of 7-8 dishes, which is changing, following the rhythm of the seasons. It is a kitchen of the earth, in a direct connection from the farm to the table.
The product is mainly Mallorquin of the season and ecological, being the vegetable of its own farm and the rest, they buy it to local producers, that follow sustainable methods. The base of the dishes is also found in the Mallorcan Cookbook, interpreted by Maria Solivella. The result is a creative but simple proposal that recovers the original flavours of the island. A way of understanding gastronomy from responsibility and closely linked to the international slow-food movement.
The soul of Ca Na Toneta
Created by the Solivellas sisters, they have a close, familiar and attentive treatment; That is to be appreciated that does not change, despite the recent visibility that is acquiring with the visit of celebrities like Michelle Obama.
The restaurant is in where it was the House of their Aunt Toneta, and in honour of it, was established the name of the restaurant. It is a traditional house in the interior of Majorca.
Restaurant and shop Ca Na Toneta
When we arrived, we found a double entrance. The first, it leads to the shop where they sell handicraft products they use in the restaurant and that follow the same local philosophy: glass glasses of the island, precious ceramics, cushions and blankets of sheep wool, etc. The second door is direct access to the restaurant.
The restaurant area opens to whitewashed stone dining rooms, with modern décor that reinterprets the Mallorcan tradition, giving a simple, but a cosy and original result. It highlights the terrace, very pleasant for the summer and with an original mural decoration.
Original terrace painting made by Albert Pinya
It follows a video of the making off of the realization of the paintings, which represent the vision of the food of the house. Artistic defence of the agricultural-ecological model, reinforced by the identity of Mallorca.
