Mallorca’s First Water Mill
The mill of Son Roig dates back to the 13th century. It is the first water mill in Mallorca, located in the privileged setting of the Tramuntana, a World Heritage Site.
There, taking the advice of the poet, and leaving the noisy word apart, the German family Schödel has installed his residence.
Schödel Family
“Welcome to Paradise.” This is how Hans Schödel welcomes us at the door of Son Roig. Actor and author, Hans Schödel has created a new home for his family in an old mill near Santa Maria del Camí. About 2 minutes by car or 1 hour on foot, following the road parallel to the Torrent de Coanegra.
Clarissa and Hans welcome us in a very warmly, opening the doors of their house, which they like to share with all the walkers of the zone.
Hans Schödel owes his first Mallorca encounter to television. He came to shoot and fell in love with the island. A few years later, after taking care of his parents in Germany, this convinced Europeist finally moves to Mallorca to live his dream. To be surrounded every day by a fantastic panorama, absolute silence without neighbours and to live in a sustainable way in nature.
Meals and Stays in Son Roig
“We are happy when people come and share our luck with us, that we can stay here,” says Schödel.
If you call them with a little time, they will prepare a barbecue for you and you can spend a pleasant day on their farm, seeing their animals, trekking the more than 120,000 metres of nature that surrounds them, or spending a night in the more than 15 tree tents suspended on the property.
The futuristic-looking triangular bivouacs are suspended between three trees with straps. They can accommodate up to three people, depending on their size. Ideal for a weekend getaway in nature and sleep watching the stars.
Cooperativa Coanegra
They live self-sufficiently. With their own water (they are also connected to the water network), their own vegetable garden and solar energy. They also belong to the cooperative Coanegra, with a shop in Marratxi, where you can buy all kinds of organic products.
