Sal de Cocó, the blue magic of the Colònia de Sant Jordi
It has been a few months of many changes, the arrival of summer and a huge list of places to visit on the island and not only.
As faithful bon vivant lovers eager to discover and let us be surprise… we have been adding hidden places to visit and recommend… I have personally marked that before Ferragosto (August 15) I could have recommended my favorite sites discovered or recovered this summer.
Back to la Colonia & Sal de Cocó
As far as I can remember, Colònia de Sant Jordi means summer, Easter holidays, birthdays of friends, long days of holidays, nights of revetla and verbenas… or what this very thing, to do nothing but enjoy.
Since I left Spain until yesterday, I had not returned to the place that so many joys and diversions had given me. And since I enjoyed that entrance through the main street, I got to the square and a few meters away to see the fishermen’s dock: simple and beautiful, as always.
In the corner, there was the restaurant, the protagonist of this post, which had recommended me so much and which in photos had captivated me so much by its decoration and brightness. Its name: Sal de Cocó by Marta Rosello.
A simple menu with an interesting local wine list, based on Mediterranean cuisine, with a touch and delicate and exquisite presentation. An ideal combination of products, but nothing surprising on the palate.
They have a limited edition of Bodega J. Luis Ferrer and Ca´n Axartel, as a house wine, both very good value for money.
A place decorated with taste and care to every detail and corner mixing the renovated antiquity: as the use of hydraulic tiles to present the appetizers, and the under plate that also remember this type of floors.
Located opposite the small port and fishermen’s pier of Colonia de Sant Jordi, in an ideal location, every detail of the restaurant recalls the sea breeze, the magic of small fishing boats, with fish being the star product of chef Marta Roselló, also known as “alchemist of flavours“.
Hidden Concierge Recommendation
In addition to the menu, the local has a tasting menu option at 29 Euros / person that changes regularly and that we recommend to know and / or get to know the idea of the cuisine of this famous chef.
The menu consists of a starter, main course and dessert. The drink is not included and the dessert must be the same for every two people.
+ More
If simplicity is the difference, as could not be otherwise, we wanted to try their selection of homemade croquettes: seafood, Iberian ham, mushrooms, four cheeses … a rich batter, with just and balanced use of oil and excellent flavor. It was a pleasant surprise to see that in a traditional dish, not only did it not fail, but they managed to surprise us.
If we liked the tasting menu only for its starter, so as not to leave a bad taste in our mouths, we continued, trying one more dish: Ravioli stuffed with mussels and saffron sauce.
With the choice of this dish, we understood why the “alchemist of flavours” achieves a very correct balance of flavour and even of smell.
A nice meal in a place with very good harmony.
